The 2016 Studentship Competition (for entry in October 2016) is now closed.

Applications received after 5:00pm, Monday 11 January 2016 will not be considered for nomination under any circumstances.

The information below remains as a general guide for applicants considering applying for entry in October 2017.

Before applying, please read the Applicant Guidance Notes carefully.

Step One: Contact the Subject Area

Before you apply you will need to explore with our Subject Area Contacts whether your area of research interest can be supervised and supported, and begin to identify suitable supervisors.

Step Two: Complete an Online Application Form

Our selection processes require you to apply through the online application form of the University at which you would like to study. You must include the code AH16 on your application form to indicate that you wish to be considered for a Northern Bridge award:

Applicants to Newcastle University should quote AH16 under ‘Studentship/Partnership Reference’ and ‘Who is your sponsor/funding body?’

Applicants to Durham University should insert AH16 where asked on the form ‘How do you intend to finance your tuition fees’ and ‘living expenses?’

Applicants to Queen’s University Belfast should tick ‘I will apply separately to an external body’ then enter AH16 under ‘To which body do you intend to apply?’

The deadline for applications to Northern Bridge’s 2015 competition is 5:00pm, Monday 11 January 2016.*

*Please note: It is important to check whether the School or Department to which you are applying has its own internal deadline.

If you are nominated by your subject area to proceed to the second stage of the competition, you will work with your Subject Area Contact to complete a Nomination Form.
The deadline for receipt of Nomination Forms is 5:00pm, Monday 15 February 2016.

The results of the competition will be announced on Tuesday 22 March 2016.
