Placement Opportunity - VARC (Visual Arts in Rural Communities)

VARC are looking for a Northern Bridge award-holder interested in a varied and exciting role as part of its new two-year programme ENTWINED: Rural. Land. Lives. Art. This multi-partner project comprises 6 mixed length residencies and through the artists’ practice, different aspects of what makes a ‘place’ will be explored and the interconnectedness of rural land and rural lives revealed. With an engagement programme of workshops, open days and sharing days the programme will culminate in 2021 with an exhibition and a publication.

The position is part time (average 2/3 days per month) and is ideally for the entire programme (2019- 2021) but the role can be split into two years for two different students (2019-2020 and 2020-2021).

The following role specification is designed as a guide only. It can be negotiated and is subject to change:

  • Assistance with the artist residency recruitment process (Nov 2019)
  • Presence at artist workshops, assisting the artist and Engagement Manager when necessary
  • Presence at open days and events, assisting with promotion and documentation
  • Attend the Steering Group meetings, take minutes (twice yearly)
  • Assist the Project Director in organising the Summer 2020 Sharing Day at The Sill
  • Draft occasional newsletters
  • Contribute to VARC’s social media platforms
  • Help the curators with the organisation of the final end of year exhibitions (Autumn 2021)
  • Work with the Steering Group to programme the end the end of programme conference
  • Work with the editors and designer to produce the end of programme publication

*If your own research is related to the programme’s theme, there is the possibility of presenting at the Sharing Day and end of programme Conference.
