My PhD, “All Together Now!”: Social Media, Social Convention, and the Dead Rock Star, explores the impact of social media in the way we grieve. Drawing on elements of wider cultural phenomena, popular music studies, and death studies, this project seeks to understand how rock stars’ deaths are grieved in online spaces and what this can tell us about wider cultural practices. My project will combine a traditional thesis with blogs, vlogs, and social media engagement.
