Children, Heritage & Digital Technology: My research seeks to understand if, and how, children and young people can design, develop, program and co-produce digital engagements inspired by archival material to be used in conjunction with heritage site visits. These digital engagements include a range of broad interactive formats, such as apps, games, interactive artworks and web-based content. Collaborating with schools and youth community groups in Northumberland, my research seeks to develop interactive digital educational and visitor engagement content inspired by the Charles Philips Trevelyan archive held by Newcastle University Special Collections. This is supported by the primary case study heritage site, the National Trust’s Wallington Hall. The research focuses on how digital inclusion can be achieved and facilitated in a cultural heritage education and outreach context. Understanding how a younger audience can engage with historical spaces and documents to create resources for their peers. This PhD is funded by the AHRC National Productivity Investment Fund, and is supported by partner organisation Northumberland County Council.
