My research project focuses on representation of Japanese culture in Italian literary production of the second post-war period. Main case study of my project is Italo Calvino, one of the most influential writers of the Twentieth century. Not only did the author visit Japan, but he also owned several books about Japanese literature and religions – as my invaluable experience of cataloguing his books stored in Rome unveiled. Thus, I am investigating the presence of Japanese culture in Calvino’s mature production, seeking direct and oblique evidences of stylistic, aesthetic, and thematic intercultural contacts.
